At PerkSpot, we invest heavily in building and maintaining an industry-leading catalog of savings opportunities. Our Merchant Partnerships team is constantly negotiating new discounts, optimizing existing offers, and keeping the marketplace competitive and relevant for your employees.
But there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all employee benefit. Every organization is different, and your workforce, culture, competitive landscape, and internal priorities all shape what the right experience should look like. What your employees see, or don’t see, should be your decision.
Rather than asking 1,300+ customers to accept a standardized platform, we’ve built a system that allows employers to dial in the employee experience on PerkSpot. Through suppressions, legacy offers, and local deal integration, you get meaningful control without sacrificing the scale and value of a large marketplace.
Let’s explore how it works.
Suppressions: Control Where It Matters
For a variety of reasons, some employers choose to suppress certain merchants or categories. Sometimes it’s about brand alignment. Sometimes it’s about avoiding the promotion of direct competitors. In other cases, it’s simply about ensuring the benefit reflects internal values.
Fortunately, community administrators have built-in control. By default, admins can suppress up to five merchants from all employee-facing communications. While this is most commonly done to prevent competitors from appearing in promotional messaging, who you suppress and why is entirely up to you.
Admins may also suppress high-level offer classifications based on the most commonly suppressed categories across our ecosystem. We continuously analyze these trends and refine the available options, making them simple for you to implement when needed.
That said, suppressions come with trade-offs. Every offer removed is one fewer opportunity for employees to save. While we fully support your need for control, our guidance is to suppress thoughtfully. The broader the access, the greater the savings potential, and the stronger the perceived value of the benefit.
Our goal here is to help you strike the right balance between customization and maximum value.
Legacy Offers: Protect What Employees Already Trust
Many organizations already have discount arrangements in place before partnering with PerkSpot, whether negotiated directly with merchants or accessed through another vendor. We refer to these as legacy offers, and we understand how important they are.
These relationships often represent significant effort from your team. More importantly, they’re familiar to employees. It’s common to see legacy offers rank among the most popular categories during a client’s first year on our platform.
They also provide instant credibility. When employees log in and immediately see deals they recognize and trust, their guard comes down. Familiarity signals legitimacy, builds confidence in the broader platform, and encourages deeper engagement from day one.
If you’ve negotiated a deal directly with a merchant, migration into PerkSpot is very straightforward. Simply provide us with a few key details, and we’ll handle the rest. When your portal launches, employees will find the deals they already know alongside thousands of additional savings opportunities.
If the offer originates from another third-party vendor, the process can be more nuanced. While we’re typically successful in securing a matching or stronger offer, it isn’t guaranteed. Even so, our Merchant Partnerships team works diligently to preserve continuity and protect the value employees expect.
With legacy offers, the intent is to expand access without disrupting what already works.
Local Offers: Making Value Feel Immediate
For many employee populations, especially decentralized or frontline workforces, value is experienced locally. Discounts resonate most when they reflect everyday spending and support businesses that employees already know.
Local savings feel tangible and immediate. For employees who may not think in terms of “perks,” saving at a familiar neighborhood brand can be the difference between passive awareness and active participation.
We’re strong advocates for incorporating local offers. Not only do they deliver relevant value, but they also often act as an entry point into broader engagement. When employees start by saving somewhere familiar, they’re more likely to explore additional categories across the platform.
We invite our customers to help shape this experience. If there’s a local business your employees love that isn’t yet available, you can recommend it through our simple “Suggest a Business” process. From there, our Merchant Partnerships team reaches out and works to secure the merchant for your workforce, ensuring the platform reflects the communities where your employees actually live and spend.
Local offers anchor the platform in the everyday realities of your workforce, so engagement starts with relevance and grows from there.
Personalization Without Sacrificing Scale
A voluntary benefit reflects directly on you as the employer. Alignment matters. Familiarity matters. Relevance matters.
We maintain a deep, competitive marketplace, but we also recognize that the right experience isn’t identical for every company. Through thoughtful suppressions, seamless legacy migration, and a strong emphasis on local value, we help you shape a platform that feels intentional and aligned with your workforce.
When employees log in and see offers that make sense, offers that reflect their reality and your standards, engagement is far more likely.
And that’s where real value begins.
